Your Netopia 3300 Series Internet Gateway can be configured for several different types of ISP-provided accounts. This document outlines several of the most common types of configuration setups that you will encounter when setting up your gateway.
|
Please Note: If your Netopia has been pre-configured by the telco or your service provider, it is unlikely that the information contained in this Quick Guide will be applicable to you. Please contact the service provider before making any changes in the parameters programmed into this device.
This guide assumes that you are configuring this device for the first time or that the router has been reset to factory default.

Click Here! for detailed instructions for connecting to the router from your computer.
Please Note: Before proceeding, you should have the following information that must be supplied by the ISP. You should have this crucial information in hand before proceeding. This includes:
Encapsulation Type
|
VPI / VCI
|
Static IP Address (WAN)
|
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
|
ISP Username & Password (PPPoE)
|
DNS #'s (Primary & Secondary)
If the Netopia has been provided by the ISP, this information is probably preconfigured into the gateway. However, it is always a good idea to have this information on hand.

Caution: If the ISP or other service provider has preconfigured your router, it probably isn't necessary to do Basic Configuration on the router. However, if you plan to do configuration on the router, be sure that you have accurate information as regards your account parameters from the service provider. Otherwise you may be unable to readily establish your internet connection.
- Browse into the Netopia router.
- In the upper menu bar, click on Configure.
- Click on the Quickstart link.
- The values on this screen are typically preconfigured by the ISP.
- If these fields are blank, you will not be able to log onto the internet until you have confirmed the information from your ISP and entered it here.
- Click on the Submit button to save these entries (even if they were already filled in).
|
|
- Click on Configure in the menu bar to return to the configuration options.
- Click on WAN.
- Click on ATM under Other WAN Options.
- In the ATM Circuits box:

PLEASE NOTE: These are crucial values that are supplied by your service provider.
- Enter the VPI and VCI values.
- Select the correct Encapsulation from the drop-down menu. (PPP over Ethernet in this case).
- Select the correct Multiplexing value if different from the default setting.
- Click on the Submit button to save the changes.
|
- Click on the WAN link in the left-hand menu.
- In the WAN IP Interfaces box, click on the link for the WAN vcc1 .
- Enable Interface should be checked.
- Address Mapping (NAT) should be checked.
- Enter the ISP Username and ISP Password to log into your internet account. (These values should already be filled in).
- Connection Type is typically set to Always-On.
- Click on the Submit button to save any changes.
|
|
- Restrictions are normally set to Admin Disabled to prevent browsing or telnet access into the router from across the WAN. Setting this field to None will allow remote access into the router, but you still must enter the Admin level password to make and save changes. If you need technical support from Netopia or your ISP, you may be asked to set this value to None, but it is advisable to otherwise set this to Admin Disabled. Click here for additional details and instructions.
- Click on the Submit button to save the changes.
|
Please Note: Be sure to take adequate precautions to protect your local network devices if public IP's are used on the LAN and NAT is disabled.
- Again click on the WAN link in the left-hand menu.
- The Enable Gateway Option should be checked.
- The Interface Type should be PPP (vcc1).
- Click on the Submit button.
|
|
- Click on Configure in the menu bar to return to the configuration options.
- Click on LAN.
- In the LAN IP Interface box:

- Enter the IP Address you wish to use on the LAN Ethernet of the router for the internal addressing. If you have an existing network addressing scheme, enter that here.
- Enter the IP Netmask for your LAN.
- Click on the Submit button to save the changes.
|
|
- In the Other LAN Options box, you can click on DHCP Server and disable the feature if you don't wish to use that functionality in the router.
- DHCP Server is enabled by default in the factory configuration.
- DHCP settings must conform to configured LAN settings if DHCP is left enabled.
- Click on the Submit button to save any changes.
- Click on the LAN link in the left-hand menu and return to the LAN Interface options.
|
|
