Lost Password - Reset to Factory Defaults IEQG_102
If you have lost the password to your Netopia Internet Gateway, or just need to reset it to factory default settings before reconfiguration, you will need to follow the directions in this Quick Guide.
Please Note: Once you have reset the Netopia Gateway, all of your WAN and LAN connection information and settings will be lost, not just the password. The gateway must be reconfigured before you will be able to access the internet.
Once reset, the ethernet (LAN) address of the router will be 192.168.1.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

Before You Start
Browse into the Netopia's web interface at http://192.168.1.254 (if using the default IP setting). If your network has a different IP addressing scheme, modify this accordingly.

Once logged in, click on the Expert Mode link in the left-hand side menu (if that link is visible). In the Expert Mode Confirmation screen click on Ok to continue. This menu bar will be visible at the top of your screen if you are in Expert Mode.

Remember to click the button to save any entries. Hitting the back button without clicking will undo any changes.

Once you have completed your configuration, click on the symbol in your upper right hand corner to validate the changes. Then click on Save and Restart.

Resetting Netopia 3300 Series Gateways and Smart Modems
On the back panel of the device, you will see the Off/On Switch, the Power Port for attaching the supplied power adapter and a small hole with a rubber "button" inside of it. This is the Reset Button.

  1. Using the tip of a pen or an unfolded paperclip, carefully depress this switch momentarily. This should be done with the router powered up.
  2. Caution: Do Not keep the button depressed for more than a brief moment. You can "feel" the click. Keeping the button depressed too long can erase necessary circuit configuration for the ISP default settings.
  3. Restart the router.
  4. You will now have a default ethernet IP address of 192.168.1.254 (unless otherwise specified by your ISP).

Conclusion
After following the above procedure and rebooting, your Netopia will be reverted to a factory default state. The ethernet IP address will now be 192.168.1.254. Telnet or web browser access back into the Netopia can be readily acheived by setting your computer's TCP/IP settings to obtain its IP address dynamically from the gateway.
