Password Configuration IEIR_005
This Technote describes the procedures to change the login passwords configured in your Netopia 3300/3500 Series Internet Gateway.

Before you start
Browse into the Netopia router's web interface at http://192.168.1.254 (if using the default IP setting). If your network has a different IP addressing scheme, modify this accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: Password changes will take effect immediately, but we do recommend rebooting the router after any configuration changes.

The Netopia Web GUI Interface (Firmware Version 7.2 and later)

Procedure
Access the Password Page:
  1. Click on http://192.168.1.254/Passwords.
  2. Select Passwords.

  3. Check to Enable Local Admin Login.
  4. Enter and confirm a new Admin password in the spaces provided. This will be case-sensitive!
  5. Click on the Submit button.
  6. Click on the in the upper right hand corner.

  7. Click Save and Restart. This will restart the Netopia with the new passwords and any other configuration changes.
  8. When you log back into the router, the new Username: will be admin (full read/write) or user (view only).
  9. Remember, the new passwords are case sensitive!

Telnet Procedure
  1. Establish a telnet session with the router. For additional information on telnet access into the router CLI, please see IEQG_100: Getting Started.
  2. At the prompt, type in config. Enter.
  3. At the prompt, type in set system password admin. Enter.
  4. Type in your current admin-level password. Enter.
  5. Now, type in the new password you wish to configure. Enter.
  6. Re-enter to confirm the new password. Enter.
  7. Once accepted, type in save. Enter. This change has now taken effect.
  8. Type in exit at the >> prompt, enter, and then type in restart to save this and any other new settings.
  9. You have now changed the password for the Netopia router. Don't forget, the Password is case sensitive.
  10. The same configuration procedure can be used for user level access into the router. User level cannot make configuration changes or reboot the router, so the administrator must do the actual changes.
