Launching Timbuktu Pro Results in a TCP/IP Error Message

TP2000_019

This tech note explains how to resolve the TCP/IP error message seen with Timbuktu Pro running on Windows XP operating systems.

Situation:

When trying to launch Timbuktu Pro some customers may receive a TCP/IP error message stating the following:

UNABLE TO INITIATE A TCP/IP CONNECTION.

- Maybe the TCP/IP protocol has not been installed? - Maybe the network was not initiated? - Maybe the winsock.dll was not installed, not found, or not the correct version?

Usually this error message appears if the "Fast User Switching" and/or "Welcome Screen" features are enabled. To resolve this issue you will need to disable both settings located under the operating systems User Accounts Control Panel. You will need to adjust these settings within the "Change the way users logon/off" menu.

Note: We have also seen instances where having a Novell client installed on Windows XP system will display the same error message. If this is the case please take a look at our technote in regards to this issue: TP2000_018.html.
