This tech note explains why the Timbuktu Pro icon does not appear in your system tray after installing the Timbuktu Pro v4.5 or higher on your Windows XP system.
After installing Timbuktu Pro on my XP system, the Timbuktu Pro icon does not appear in my system tray. MiniTB2 is now installed by default on Windows XP systems. This means that you will not see the icon in your system tray unless one of two conditions are present:
-
There is a Timbuktu Pro connection active or the full Timbuktu Pro application is launched from the Timbuktu Pro program menu. When MiniTB2 detects an inbound connection, it will make the icon visible in your system tray. MiniTB2 is now enabled by default to avoid a potential conflict with the Window XP's Fast User Switching and Welcome Screen feature. MiniTB2 is a small application that launches the full Timbuktu Pro application when it detects an incoming connection. After two minutes of inactivity, the Timbuktu Pro icon will disappear from the system tray as MiniTB2 returns to its initial state after the Timbuktu Pro application is shut down.
Note: If you want to disable MiniTB2 so the full version of Timbuktu Pro will run, you can do so by going on your Windows XP Control Panel, User Account, Change the way users logon/off menu and uncheck both "Fast User Switching" and "Welcome screen" options.

The full Timbuktu Pro application is launched from the Timbuktu Pro program menu
