Solutions for Unmapped Keys on a Windows Host

TP2000_009

This technote describes a workaround for mapping certain keys, to a Windows host in a Control session, that are normally unmapped.

Situation:

Timbuktu Pro (prior to build 869) currently do not support the mapping of certain keys/keystrokes such as Ctrl + Break. We realize that many Timbuktu users rely on the ability to use these keystrokes to administer remote systems. The following solution presented can be as a workaround for sending these particular unmapped keys.

Solution:

Solution for unmapped keys

Windows 2000 and Window ME have an application called On-Screen Keyboard found in Start > Programs > Accessories > Accessibility, which you can click on a virtual keyboard on the desktop, using the mouse.  The On-Screen Keyboard can be used to type the unmapped keys such as Ctrl + Break.

To use the On-Screen Keyboard to type unmapped keys you must open the On-Screen Keyboard application on the host machine (the machine being controlled). Then, click on the unmapped keys.

Note: This application is only available on Windows 2000 and ME.

Solution for non-US English Keyboard Layout

When using Timbuktu with non-US English operating systems, certain characters will not map properly. As a workaround, you can use the Microsoft Visual Keyboard.

In the same manner as the On-Screen Keyboard, you want to open the Microsoft Visual Keyboard on the host machine (the machine being controlled). Then, click on the keys that are not mapped properly.
