Intel's LANDesk Detected on Installation

TP2000_004

This Tech Note describes how to remove the LanDesk video hook so that Timbuktu can be installed.

Situation:

Timbuktu Pro 2000 detects the LANDesk video hook (idisntkm) in the active video file, a message will pop up stating so and the installation will be aborted. The video hooks of both applications cannot be installed at the same time on your machine.

Solution:

If you are not using LanDesk and/or it's uninstaller did not remove the video hook from the registry, then you can manually remove it (NT Only) by editing the registry.

IMPORTANT: This Tech Note contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

First, you need to locate the active video file in the registry. You can do this by:

  1. Clicking the Start button on the task Bar and selecting Run
  2. In the field provided, type regedt32
  3. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\Video.
  4. In the right-hand window the first listing should look like this: \Device\Video0:REG_SZ:\REGISTRY\Machine\System\ControlSet001\Services\STB\Device0. The 2 values that may be different for each machine are the ControlSet reference and the Video reference, in this case STB.
  5. At this point, you should follow the path found in the Video Device Map.
  6. Once at Device0, you should double click on the Installed Display Drivers Listing in the right-hand window.
  7. This will bring up the Multi-String editor. In it, you should see LANDesk's video hook, idisntkm, on the first line.
  8. On the second line you should see the driver for the video card.
  9. Delete idisntkm and place the video driver listing in the first position
  10. Close the registry and reboot.
If you are unable to locate the LanDesk video hook in the registry, then reinstall your video drivers.

Now you should be able to install Timbuktu Pro 2000.

Summary:

When Timbuktu Pro 2000 aborts installation because it detected the LanDesk video hook, then the video hook should be manually removed from the registry or by reinstalling the video drivers. Timbuktu can then be installed.
