How To Do a Clean Uninstall of Timbuktu Pro for Windows

This technote describes how to do a clean uninstall of Timbuktu Pro.

Please Note: This guide only applies to Timbuktu Pro for Windows version 7 and Lower.

The recommended process for uninstalling v8 is removing Timbuktu Pro through the Control Panels --> Add/Remove Programs, or running the Timbuktu Pro installer which will prompt users uninstall the software. If neither method seems to be effective, please contact tech support directly at (510)597-5400 Ext 2.

Situation:

Sometimes it is necessary to do a clean uninstall of Timbuktu Pro. For example, when you are installing Timbuktu Pro, you may get an error message: Remote control component cannot be installed.

Solution:

Here are the steps required to do a clean uninstall of Timbuktu Pro:

  1. Exit and Shut Down Timbuktu Pro.
  2. Run the Timbuktu Pro Uninstaller from the Program menu.
  3. Reboot the machine.
  4. Go to Start\Find\Files or Folders.
  5. Click on Files or Folders.
  6. Do a search for tb2, timbuktu, netopia.
  7. Delete all files that are under tb2, timbuktu, netopia.
NOTE: These will delete all Timbuktu entries on the hard drive.
  1. Close the Find: All Files window.
  2. Go to Start\Run and type regedit.
  3. Make sure My Computer is highlighted.
  4. Select Edit/Find and make sure that Look at Keys, Values, and Data are checked.
  5. Do a search for tb2.
  6. Delete all data, values and keys that are related to Timbuktu Pro.
  7. Continue searching and deleting, by hitting the F3 key, until you've reached the end of the registry (Delete only the data, values and keys that are highlighted during your search)
NOTE: This will delete all Timbuktu Pro entries in the registry.
  1. Close the registry.
  2. Reboot the machine.
  3. Install Timbuktu Pro.
NOTE: You may have to re-download the Timbuktu Pro Installer file.
