TP2000_008 Cannot connect through a DSL/Cable line to a Timbuktu Pro host using the same DSL/Cable provider

TPM_073

Situation:

You want to connect to a Timbuktu host that is using a DSL/Cable line provided by the same Internet Service Provider (ISP) as you are using. When you try to connect, the connection times out and receive the error message:

"Could not connect to the remote computer. Either the remote computer is not running Timbuktu Pro or the address is not valid" (PC)

or

"[IP address] is not responding. Choose Troubleshooting from the Help menu and select 'Why can't I get a response?' from the list of topics." (Mac)

Cause:

Some DSL providers specifically disallow the use of remote control and other software within their network, as this is deemed a security risk. This has been confirmed as a concern with Pacbell and may be the case with other ISPs as well. Please contact the ISP to confirm that this is the problem
