'Incompatible Version' message during a control session

TPM_071

Users receive an 'Incompatible Version' message during a control session.

Problem:

Some Timbuktu Pro and Timbuktu HouseCall users have reported getting an 'Incompatible Version' message during a Control or Look session, causing the host (the controlled system) to crash. This problem is specific to Timbuktu Pro for Mac 5.2.3 and Timbuktu HouseCall 5.2.3. Below are solutions for the problem. If you're getting the Incompatible Version message using another version of Timbuktu, please see the bottom of this technote for other reasons for getting the Incompatible Version message.

Solution for Timbuktu Pro for Mac 5.2.3:

The problem has been resolved in Timbuktu Pro for Mac v5.2.4. If you are a current v5.x user, then you are entitled to a free upgrade. You can get that upgrade HERE.

Solution for Timbuktu HouseCall 5.2.3:

The problem has been resolved in Timbuktu HouseCall v5.2.4. If you are a current v5.x user, then you are entitled to a free upgrade.

Other Reasons for Getting the Incompatible Version Message or if you are experiencing the error in Timbuktu Pro v6.x:

There are other reasons why users might get an Incompatible Version message during a Control or Look session. The Incompatible Version message is an indication that there was a break in the connection stream, so you should check to see if there's a problem with any part of the connection between the two systems.

Displaying a desktop picture or pattern on the host (the controlled system) can also cause the Incompatible Version message. Timbuktu Pro for Mac version 4.5 and above includes a feature for disabling a desktop picture or pattern. To disable the desktop picture or pattern on a system you want to control or observe, select 'Hide Desktop Picture or Pattern' in the Control/Look Preferences.

A user may also get this error message due to high video data on the Host being sent over a connection with not enough bandwith available. By lowering the colors and resolution on the host, this can help to resolve the problem.
