Installing certain applications on Windows NT and 2000 with Execute PC Installer may not function properly

NTO_023

Problem:

When installing certain applications on Windows NT/2000 machines with the Execute PC Installer command in the netOctopus Administrator, certain files may not be installed correctly.

Cause:

Certain applications insist on installing files under the context of user currently logged in. The netOctopus Agent 3.6.2 and below did not support installing files in the profile directory of the current user. By default netOctopus' Execute PC Installer command will install software on Windows NT and 2000 in Administrator mode and not user mode.

Solution:

Unlike previous versions of the Windows Agent, the 3.6.3 Windows Agent now support the installation of files in the profile directory of the current logged in user. To enable this feature you need to use the following parameters in the Execute PC Installer dialog:

  1. Select Windows NT Networking
  2. Username: interactive! (This is not case sensitive. You must add the exclamation point after "interactive".)
  3. Password and Domain: Leave empty. (Note: This will bypass the need to enter a username and password when installing on Windows NT/2000)

This feature works only if a user is currently logged on to the target machine. If no user is logged on to the target the netOctopus Administrator log window will respond with 'Error while executing application: No interactive user session.'
