This Technote explains how to create a filter with the Agent Serial Number.

Problem:

When trying to save a filter with the Agent Serial Number Information Item, the following error will occur:

"netOctopus could not interpret the filter value field. A hexidecimal number was expected (E.g. 0X12ab, $12AB)."

Situation:

Within netOctopus:

1. Choose Filter/New Simple Filter.
2. Drag the Agent Serial Number from the Information Items Window into the left Filter Criterion Window and type in the Agent Serial Number that you wish to find.
3. Note: Open a Template Window with the Agent Serial Number in order to find out what serial number you wish to filter.

When the filter is saved, an error will occur.

Solution:

To bypass the error message, when saving a filter with the netOctopus Agent Serial Number, use the prefix 0x.

For example:

netOctopus Agent Serial Number is 0x5BB01470.

Summary:

The netOctopus Agent Serial Number cannot be saved in a Filter without the "0x" prefix.
