How to Establish a TCP/IP Connection to a System Behind a Netopia R-Series Router

This brief guide is intended to help first time users of Timbuktu Pro quickly set up and establish a connection between two machines over TCP/IP through a Netopia R-Series router running Network Address Translation. This is by no means a definitive guide. There are alternate ways of establishing a Timbuktu Pro TCP/IP connection. This guide only presents one of them.

Following are the steps to take before the connection can be made.

  1. Go to Quick Menus, and select Network Address Translation.

  2. Select Show/Change Server List.

  3. Select Easy-Servers.

  4. From the Show/Change NAT Server List screen, select Add Server.

  5. Select Service and chose Timbuktu from the server list. (By default, this will add UDP/TCP 407, 1417-1420)

  6. Select Add Nat Server.
  7. Next, enter the Server Private IP Address, or the private IP address of the host/server you are forwarding the service to.

  8. Select Add Nat Server
