This brief guide is intended to help first time users of Timbuktu Pro quickly set up and establish a connection between two machines over TCP/IP through a Netgear router running Network Address Translation. This is by no means a definitive guide. There are alternate ways of establishing a Timbuktu Pro TCP/IP connection. This guide only presents one of them.
How to connect to a machine behind a Netgear router:
Use the PORTS menu in Advance, to configure the router to forward incoming protocols to IP addresses on your local network based on the port number. In addition to servers for specific protocols, you can also specify a Default (also called DMZ) Server to which all other incoming protocols are forwarded.
To configure port forwarding to a local server:
- Enter 407 in an unused Port # box.
- Enter the IP address of the local server in the corresponding Server IP Address box.
- Click Apply at the bottom of the menu.
- Repeat steps 1-3 for ports 1417,1418,1419 and 1420 (Note: Mac to Mac connections only requires port 407 open)
