This brief guide is intended to help first time users of Timbuktu Pro quickly set up and establish a connection between two machines over TCP/IP through a Macsense Xrouter and Xrouter Pro running Network Address Translation. This is by no means a definitive guide. There are alternate ways of establishing a Timbuktu Pro TCP/IP connection. This guide only presents one of them.
Following are the steps to take before the connection can be made.
Note: Please refer to your manual on how to enter the Web Management page of the router.
- In order to establish a Timbuktu Pro connection, you must enter your router's Virtual Server Advanced menu option.
- Under the "Protocols" section, chose "Both" from the pop-up menu.
- Under the "Ports" section, enter the port(s) that Timbuktu Pro uses in the provided ports field(s). Type in:
407
- Then enter the IP address of the machine on the network that you would like the data to be forwarded to in under the "Redirect IP Address" field provided. Remember to assign a static IP address to that Mac beforehand.
- Repeat steps for ports 1417-1420
Note: Mac to Mac connections only requires TCP 407 open
- Once all ports have been forwarded, hit the Apply button to save changes.
- To now connect to these systems behind the Xrouter, please enter in the external/WAN IP address within the TCP/IP field located in the New Connection window on the guest (controlling/intiating) system.
