How to setup a TCP/IP connection for Timbuktu Pro for MacOS

This brief guide is intended to help first time users of Timbuktu Pro quickly set up and establish a TCP/IP connection between two Macs. This is by no means a definitive guide. There are alternate ways of establishing a Timbuktu Pro TCP/IP connection. This guide only presents one of them.

Note: Both the guest and the Host must be connected to the Internet in order for you to make the connection.

For Timbuktu Pro v6.x

Setting up the Host to accept a connection:

Adding a Trusted Visitor on the Host

  1. Select Visitor Privileges from the Setup menu.
  2. Click on New to add a new Trusted Visitor.

  3. Check all the privileges you want that Trusted Visitor to have.

  4. Click Save to save the changes to the New Visitor.

Enabling Incoming TCP/IP Access

From the Setup menu select Incoming Access. Put a check in the box to the left of TCP/IP.

Entering an Email Address

(This step is only necessary for users with a dial-up Internet connection that assigns a dynamic IP address).

  1. Select Preferences from the Setup menu.
  2. Select IP Locator from the list on the left.
  3. Enter your email address in the space that says "Your email address:"
  4. Click Save to save the changes to your IP Locator Preferences.

Setting up the guest to initiate a connection to the Host:

  1. Select New Connection from the File menu.
  2. Select the TCP/IP tab (it looks like a globe).
  3. Enter the Host's IP address or email address
  4. Select the service you want to connect using (Control, Look, etc) from the Services menu.

For Timbuktu Pro v7.x

  1. Select Define User from the Setup menu.
  2. Click on New to add a new User.
  3. Check all the privileges you want that Registered User to have.
