How to set up the Callback feature using Timbuktu Pro for the MacOS

This brief guide is intended to help Timbuktu Pro for the Macintosh users properly setup the Callback feature.

This guide will be based on the following diagram:

Setting up Computer A for initiating the call

  1. In the Setup menu, chose Incoming Access. Make sure that the Dial Direct incoming access box is checked.
  2. In the File menu, choose New Connection.
  3. Select the tab with the icon of the telephone on it.

  4. In the Phone Number field, enter the phone number exactly as you would dial it if it were a voice call.
  5. Make sure that the Modem speaker on box is checked. This is for troubleshooting purposes.
  6. Make sure that the Request Callback box is checked.
  7. If you selected Require callback request from caller, when setting up Computer B visitor privileges, then also follow this additional step:

-In the New Connection window, chose Edit "location" in Calling From pop-up menu.

-In the Edit calling location name window, enter in the phone number that you request Computer B to call you back on.

  8. Click the Save button

Setting up Computer B for the call back

  1. From the Setup menu, select Incoming Access.
  2. In the Incoming Access window, check the Dial Direct box.
  3. Select Visitor Privileges from the Setup menu.

  4. In the Visitor Privileges window, click on the button labeled New to bring up the New Visitor window.
  5. In the New Visitor window, enter a username and a password for the user that will be dialing in. In the Confirm field, re-enter the user's password. Be careful because both the username and password are case-sensitive. Remember this username and password because you will need it later to log on to this host machine.
  6. In the Let New Visitor section, check off all services that you want to grant to the dial in user.
  7. Make sure that the Let visitor dial into your computer box is checked off. Otherwise, you will not be able to log in via Dial Direct from the guest system.

  8. From the pop-up menu below the Let visitor dial into your computer box, choose:
    • Refuse callback request if you do not want this registered user to be able to request a callback.
    • Callback request is caller's choice if you would like this registered user to have the option of requesting a callback from Computer B.
    • Require callback request from caller if you want to require that this registered user request a callback.
    • Require callback to specific number if you want to require that this registered user request a callback to a specific number.

  9. -In the area code and phone number fields below the pop-up menu, enter in the required phone number to which Computer B must call back to.

  10. Chose the Save button to save registered user information.

Note: Please make sure that the Calling From location is properly set up in the New Connection window on Computer B so that the call back is dialed correctly. Even though the New Connection window is not open on Computer B when it makes the callback, it still looks to the Calling From settings when it makes an outbound call.

Initiating the Call

  1. On Computer A, click on the Dial button, within the New Connection window, to connect to Computer B.
  2. A login prompt will appear once Timbuktu Pro has connected to Computer B.
  3. Select Trusted Visitor in the login box.
  4. Enter the username and password that you previously set up on Computer B. Both the username and password must be entered exactly as you entered them on Computer B when you set up the new visitor account.
  5. A dialog box will now appear verifying authentication.
  6. Once you have been authenticated, the dialogue will now read that a callback is being initiated.
  7. After the callback has been made and Computer B is now connected to you, select a service within the Service menu (such as Send, Exchange, Control, or Look) with which you wish to open a session with Computer B.
