Port Forwarding in NAT IEQG_025
Custom Services let you pass specific types of network traffic through the Netopia's NAT interfaces. Once configured, selected types of network traffic, such as FTP requests or HTTP (Web) connections, will be forwarded to a specific host or server behind your gateway router.
PLEASE NOTE: From the LAN (Local Area Network), you will also be able to access these servers, but only using the internal private IP address. Access via the public IP address is not supported from a local ethernet connection.

This technote will guide you through the setup process for the Custom Services in your Netopia.

Before You Start
Browse into the Netopia's web interface at http://192.168.1.254 (if using the default IP setting). If your network has a different IP addressing scheme, modify this accordingly.

Your Netopia Eircom Gateway home screen will appear. If your router is running the latest Eircom approved firmware, you will see an opening screen similar to the image below on the right. Instructions pertaining to this technote will follow immediately after this introduction.
Routers running firmware prior to version 7.4.2 R2 will have a home screen similar to the image on the left. Click on the caption bar below the screen shot to go directly to those instructions.

  3. From the dropdown list you can select from numerous popular games and services which are preconfigured in the Netopia's NAT tables.
    1. Select a service and click on Enable.
    2. The Enable Service screen appears. From the drop-down list select the Host Device which will act as the local server and click Enable.
    3. You will now forward requests for the selected service back to the computer on your local network.
  4. If the service you want to use isn't included in the preconfigured list, click on the Define Custom Service button.
    1. Select Port Forwarding radio button and click Next.
    2. In the Port Range screen, give this custom service a name and enter the Global Port Range. This would be the range of ports to which this application responds.
    3. Enter the Base Host Port value. This would be the first response port of the application.
    4. Select the correct Protocol and click Next. The NAT Service will be added to the end of the list of preconfigured options.
    5. Click Done.
  5. You can now enable this new service by scrolling to the end of the Service Names list and adding it as in the above instructions.
