This quickquide details configuration of a point-to-point connection between two Netopia Dial On Demand (DOD) routers. DOD routers use either ISDN or Analog lines.
- You are configuring any of the following Netopia DOD routers:
- R3100 ISDN
- R2121
- R2020
- PN435, YPN455, PN440, PN450
- PN635, IPN655, PN640, PN650
- You are configuring WAN connection between two locations with no Internet access involved.
- You are running Netopia Firmware version 3.1.3 or above. To update your router firmware, go to our firmware update page.
- Both locations are referred to as Router A and Router B. Each router will need a Connection Profile for the opposite location.
- You want to configure a WAN connection to initiate in either direction from Router B to Router A, or from Router A to Router B.
- Establish a serial connection to the Netopia router's console using a communications program such as HyperTerminal or Z-Term. The settings should be 9600 Baud, 8 Data Bits, and 1 Stop Bit. Disable flow control.
- Alternatively, you can use Telnet over your LAN to get to the console screens.
- For detailed instructions on using Hyperterminal, Z-Term, or Telnet, please see Netopia Quick Guide NQG_21.
- Do not change any settings other than the ones referred to below.
- Pressing Return takes you into a page; pressing Escape takes you out.
- Press Return after entering each setting to save it.
This configuration allows the IP connection between Router A and Router B. You may change the IP parameters in the following configuration to match the IP subnets your routers are actually addressed for. However, you must first confirm your routers are indeed addressed on two different IP subnets, as the following example illustrates. For more information on ProxyARP and Netopia Routers, please see the following technote: NIR_015: ProxyARP and Netopia Routers
