Quick Guide: PN-Series Router Reset

NQG_007: How to reset a PN-Series Netopia router to factory defaults

Lose your password? This guide shows how to reset the PN-series router so that you can access the console screens once again. Keep in mind that all of your connection profiles and settings will need to be reconfigured.

Before you start:

  • Make sure you have the console cable that came with the router. If you don't have this, it can be ordered from Netopia Customer Service at (510) 597-5400, ext.1.
  • Make sure that you have the current configuration information from the line provider and/or the ISP.

If you don't have a password, the only way to get back into the Netopia router is the following:

  1. Power down the router.
  2. Remove the single Phillips screw from the back panel.
  3. Press in the two plastic clips on top of either side of the back panel and gently snap off the cover.
  4. Near the back of the unit with the power supply on your right, you will see a large round back up battery. Next to the battery is a small plastic rectangular switch set in a silver metal housing. This is labeled SW-1.
  5. Power up the unit, and when the router has stabilized, press this switch.
  6. This will reset the unit to factory defaults and you will now be able to hook up your console cable and use your communication program to reprogram the router.
