Netopia Model 3341 Internet Gateway Configuration

CQG_041

If your Netopia 3341 ADSL Gateway has been purchased from a third-party vendor and hasn't been provisioned for a PPPoE Internet account on the SBC Network, this Quick Guide will walk you through the manual setup procedure. This guide assumes that the router has been purchased to use on an ADSL circuit NOT using PPP over Ethernet, and that you do not have an internet login from your ISP.

If you are using PPPoE, this router will auto-detect it's settings by factory default and this Quick Guide will not be applicable.

PLEASE NOTE: The Netopia 3341 is a residential internet gateway device designed for a DSL connection using a single public IP address. This router doesn't support the optional Breakwater Firewall or Virtual Private Networking Feature available as a feature upgrade on other Netopia products. However, you are afforded the protection of Network Address Translation, or NAT, which allows multiple users on your home network to connect to the internet via your single IP address. NAT also "hides" your local computers with IP addresses which cannot be accessed from the internet, thus providing a level of protection for those devices.

PLEASE NOTE: If your router is currently running Netopia Enterprise Firmware version 8.0.10 and later, this technote is not applicable to you.

Before You Start

Browse into the Netopia's web interface at http://192.168.1.254 (if using the default IP setting). If your network has a different IP addressing scheme, modify this accordingly.

Login with the admin user name and password. Admin login is required to save changes. If you are unsure of this, contact your network administrator.

Once logged in, click on the Expert Mode link in the left-hand side menu (if that link is visible). In the Expert Mode Confirmation screen click on Ok to continue. This menu bar will be visible at the top of your screen if you are in Expert Mode.

Remember to click the button to save any entries. Hitting the back button without clicking will undo any changes.

Once you have completed your configuration, click on the symbol in your upper right hand corner to validate the changes. Then click on Save and Restart.

On the right hand back panel of the router you will see the Off/On power switch and the power supply plug-in receptacle. Next to this polarized plug is a small round hole. With the router powered on and using a small stiff object such as the tip of an unfolded paper clip, insert this into the hole and depress the momentary push-switch. You will hear a slight click and the router will have been reset to factory default.

Once the router has been reset, it will once again attempt to auto-detect its configuration settings. To continue with this quick guide, "Return to the Top."

Conclusion

This document has detailed the basic configuration parameters of the Netopia 3341 ADSL Internet Gateway.

If you are connecting multiple workstations for internet access, you will need to connect a crossover cable between the 100 BaseT Ethernet port on the router and an external hub.
