CQG_037

Assumptions:

  • This Quick Guide assumes that you are upgrading the firmware version of the Cayman router to COS 6.3.0 R7. This quick guide should not be referenced for other firmware version upgrades as specific file names are given.
  • This Quick Guide is applicable to the following hardware:
    1. Cayman Model 3546 ADSL Internet Gateway
    2. Cayman Model 3547-W (Wireless) ADSL Internet Gateway
    3. Cayman Model 3220 ADSL Internet Gateway
    4. Cayman Model 2E Ethernet-to-Ethernet Router
  • This Quick Guide is NOT applicable to the following:
    1. Model 2 E with PID #'s 0618 and 0619.
    2. Model 2 E with PID #'s 0719 and 0720 AND LESS THAN 4MB memory.
    3. All other models with 2 MB memory

Before You Begin!

IMPORTANT: Before You Upgrade to 6.3 COS, Please Read the Following!

  • COS 6.3.0 R7 provides substantial new flexibility and functionality for your Cayman Internet Gateway. However, once you have upgraded to this version, you CANNOT revert back to a previous release of firmware.
  • If you are using the Back Door, or Interim password to access the router, you should change the Admin Level password before you upgrade the firmware. The interim password will no longer be functional after COS 6.3.0 R5a. Browse into the router, go to Security and click on the Password link. The password can be changed here and will take effect immediately.
  • WARNING: If you are using Barrier Reef, please do not upgrade to 6.3 or higher.

If you upgrade your Cayman ADSL Router from 6.2 to 6.3, you will lose all Barrier Reef functionality. This product was discontinued and will have no firmware support in any Cayman router going forward.

  • If you have COS 5.5.x or earlier, you will not have the necessary option to upgrade your firmware via the web interface. It will be necessary to upgrade via telnet to a tftp server as outlined in Method I of the installation instructions.

Determine the Firmware Version and PID# on your Cayman:

  • Method 1: Via Telnet
    1. Telnet into the ethernet address of the Cayman.
PLEASE NOTE: Instructions for setting up a telnet or HyperTerminal session can be found in our CQG_100: Getting Started Quick Guide.
    2. Log into the Cayman if there's a User Name and Password prompt.
    3. At the Cayman prompt type in status and hit enter.

  • Method 2: Via Web Browser
    1. Open your web browser.
    2. Enter the Cayman ethernet IP address into the URL bar.
    3. Login into the router if it is password protected.
    4. At the router "Home" page, click on the "Monitor" link.
    5. Click on Overview.
    6. The screen will be similar to the above illustration.

The Updater and COS Image Files are specific to the model and the product identification (PID) number. By clicking on the PID# in the drop-down menu below, you will be taken to upgrade instructions with specific file names for your particular model. The File Names are case sensitive!

  • IMPORTANT; PLEASE NOTE:
If you are currently running 6.x firmware on your router, do not run any of the updater files. Just upgrade with the proper version of 6.3.0 R7 firmware for your particular router.
  • After upgrading the COS of your Cayman router, you will find that you have a different login user name. This will change to admin by default, and the password previously configured will stay the same. Only a password associated with the admin login will have read/write/save privileges. The view configuration only login will be user, and will need to have a separate unique password.

Please Select Your PID# from the following list:
