Flexible and Efficient Software Distribution

netOctopus Software Delivery System - an End to End Solution

If you used only netOctopus's remote software installation, it would pay for itself with your first major software roll-out or upgrade. netOctopus allows you to fully plan, stage, execute, manage, and log the deployment of software, updates, and patches to every managed Windows or Mac OS computer on your network.

Pre-Deployment

An expense of new software deployments which is often overlooked is the investment in additional memory, hard disk, OS upgrades and other system requirements that must first be upgraded to support the new applications. netOctopus enables you to quickly apply filters matching the software requirements, and perform a real-time scan of all computers, generating a list of those that need upgrades. By doing this prior to deployment, even prior to purchase of new software, you'll be able to make more informed decisions, and more effective plans, because none of the costs will be a surprise.

Custom Packaging

Once you've got the software in-house, you may determine during your testing that you need to create custom installation packages for your client computers. Using the included copy of Installer VISE, you can quickly and easily create custom installers using comparative, before and after, snapshots of folders or entire drives.

Set It and Forget It

With each netOctopus agent assigned to Distribution Groups that control software policies based on system profile, business need or any other classification you may choose, your software packages need only be staged on servers throughout your network, assigned by Distribution Group, and the rest of the process is entirely automated. The centralized Distribution Center Server (DCS) acts as traffic cop, directing agent computers to the appropriate software download, balancing server loads across the network, and logging all installations, or problems.

Managed computers check for updates at regular intervals which you define. End users are simply presented with a software update window, and, depending on the priority of the installation, may reschedule, or install it when presented. Administrators also have the option to make the installation both mandatory and silent. Interrupted installations will resume, and all successes and failures are logged.

One to One Support, Too

Sometimes, a single user may need updates in order to resolve a problem. In these cases, the netOctopus Administrator can directly transfer files and folders, execute installers on the remote computer, re-boot, even edit the remote Windows Registry.
