Firmware Versions 8.x Superuser

Superuser Password Feature

The Superuser Password feature increases the security level of the read/write privileges in your Netopia router. This gives stricter control to the systems administrator in managing access and configuration permissions.

  • Netopia routers leave the factory without a preconfigured password.
  • The Superuser only has access to and control of the Security Options.
  • Pressing Enter (or Return) progresses into the next screen/menu, and also saves any changes or entries you have made.
  • Pressing Escape goes back to the previous screen/menu, and also reverts any unsaved changes or entries.
  • The Tab key functions as an option toggle.

Establish a telnet session into the Netopia router. The factory default setting of the LAN interface is 192.168.1.1.

  • Enter a Password: and confirm it.

PLEASE NOTE: The option for an additional users Access List will not be present until there is a Superuser name configured in the router.

Figure 5 Tiered Access Custom Menu Options

Additional users can be given tiered access into the router via the Show/Change Access Name/Passwords in the Security Options. See Figures 4 and 5. The tiered access permissions are configured in the Security... options of the System Configuration. The Superuser is the only user permitted access to the Security Options. If the router is reset to factory default, there is no password protection on the router, and there will be no Superuser in the router until one has been configured.
