Before proceeding with a firmware upgrade on your router, read the precautions listed in this chart. If any segment applies to your situation, please be sure to adhere to the instructions to expedite getting your internet connection back online.   Do NOT load new firmware on your router unless you have confirmed with your service provider that the newer version is supported. Failure to take this precaution may cause a loss of internet connection and/or loss of your support privileges from your ISP. Netopia Technical Support can continue to provide support, but in many cases this will be a paid service.   Before downloading the new firmware 6.4.0 R2 into your Netopia 3500 Series router, please take a moment to make note of the DNS information configured in the router. It may be necessary to re-enter these values to facilitate internet browsing. Click Here for instructions on the typical configuration of this option. This important step is easy and should not be overlooked!   If you have a 3300 Series Smart Modem running firmware version 6.3.0 R9 and earlier, DO NOT attempt to load new firmware on your device. No updates are available at this time. Any attempt to do so may result in hardware failure which IS NOT covered under warranty.   A significant enhancement of the Password Security is introduced into the Netopia router after upgrading to 4.11 and later (R-Series) , or 5.3.4 and later (4000 Series) . Before upgrading to 4.11+ or 5.3.4+ firmware, Click Here ! for important information about this NEW security feature . Reverting to an older version of firmware is NOT supported.   It can result in unpredictable behavior or even hardware failure which is not covered under warranty. Do Not interrupt the download process once it has begun. The router will either reboot itself or you will be prompted to do so. Aborting the download may cause equipment failure! Certain features are no longer supported in current Netopia R-Series firmware.   AURP is last supported in Firmware v4.8.2 .   LocalTalk to EtherTalk is last supported in Firmware v4.8.4 . Do Not load current firmware into the router if these network services are used in your LAN environment.

*CAUTION: Before upgrading to firmware version 8.4, your router MUST be running fw version 8.2 or later. Do Not upgrade to fw version 8.4 directly from version 8.0.10 . This may cause your router to malfunction. From 8.0.10, we recommend an interim upgrade to 8.2R1 .

*CAUTION: The R-910 router running 4.x version firmware cannot be upgraded to 8.x firmware. Likewise, 8.x cannot be "back-revved" to 4.x version. Please do not attempt to load the wrong firmware "family" into the R-910 router as hardware failure could occur.
