  • Intelligent Management - Auto-provisioning and remote management features improve accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
  • VGx Quality of Service - Motorola's VGx technology provides advanced service segmentation and requisite QoS to ensure the highest quality delivery of delay-sensitive voice and video services such as VoIP, IPTV, and HDTV.

Product Applicability

Motorola's Embedded Software for Residential and Business Customers is available on the following Netopia broadband gateways. Support for features and functionality varies by product. Refer to the product datasheets for specific feature support.

This common software platform allows providers to choose the right hardware for each type of subscriber or application, while maintaining a consistent feature set. Hardware inventory management can also be simplified by use of common software across different hardware configurations.

Software Features

With a focus on automated provisioning, Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic management, bridging and routing, robust security, and remote device management, Motorola's embedded software enables the delivery of services including VoIP, IPTV, and Internet access with high levels of quality, reliability, customer satisfaction, and low operational costs.

Automated Provisioning
Support for DSL Forum TR-069 allows Netopia DSL gateways to be configured to “phone home” to a pre-designated auto-configuration server (ACS), such as the Motorola Netopia Broadband Server (NBBS) or another TR-069 ACS, upon initial network connection. Services are automatically provisioned, configured, and activated, including updates to gateway software, if necessary – all without subscriber intervention.

QoS and Traffic Management
Motorola’s VGx QoS technology provides broadcast-quality video and crystal-clear voice, while IGMPv3 assures fast, reliable channel changing.

Bridging, Routing, and Security
Comprehensive bridging and routing support ensures extensive LAN to WAN QoS routing and security. Support for TR-101 allows a single Netopia gateway to simultaneously route multiple services from different content or service providers to different TVs, set-top boxes, or VoIP systems. A stateful packet inspection firewall protects against hackers and unwanted intrusions.

Device Management
A host of management features enables remote device management for improved accuracy and reduced management and support costs, including support for devices behind the gateway like VoIP phones, set-top boxes, and gaming systems.

Enhancements included in version 7.7 of the software include:

  • Support for TR-101: Netopia gateways can manage multiple services from different providers simultaneously, in accordance with the DSL Forum specification TR-101. This functionality is particularly important for IPTV deployments when content is delivered by different service providers.
  • Support for IGMPv3: assures fast and reliable channel changing.
  • Support for Wireless Multimedia Protocol (WMM): new QoS mechanisms enable effective blending of data, voice, and video over the wireless network.
  • Support for TR-111: Devices such as VoIP phones, set-top boxes, and gaming systems that support the TR-069 specification can be remotely configured and managed when connected to the network behind a gateway.
