Netopia® Embedded Software for Enterprise Applications

Motorola's Embedded Software for Enterprise Applications offers a rich, easy to use feature set that delivers fast, secure, and reliable connectivity for critical business applications and remote network connections.

  • Enterprise-Grade - Comprehensive features are designed for the exacting demands of businesses.
  • Secure - Integrated firewall, intrusion prevention, support for multiple VPN tunnels, and full-feature routing protect business data, networks, and users.
  • Comprehensive Routing and QoS - Selectable bridging and routing paired with extensive QoS features ensures delivery of critical business data without affecting the quality of services such as Voice over IP (VoIP).

Motorola's enterprise software addresses the needs of small and medium business (SMB) locations, from supporting multiple VPN connections for remote user access to converged data, voice, and video networks, with an intuitive, easy to use Web user interface.

Product Applicability

Netopia Embedded Software for Enterprise Applications operates across the following router families, and supports a range of WAN interfaces, including T1, xDSL, and Ethernet for use in virtually any type of business network.

This common software platform allows the use of different Netopia routers while maintaining a consistent feature set.

Software Features

With emphasis on robust security, bridging and routing, and QoS, Motorola's enterprise embedded software is ideal for enterprise applications.

Security

Motorola's enterprise embedded software includes a stateful packet inspection firewall and VPN management, with hardware acceleration supporting up to 15 VPN tunnels, and includes support for L2TP, PPTP, GRE, IPSec, and VRRP.

It supports extensive LAN to WAN QoS routing and security including virtual router interfaces, multiple DHCP zones, and IP QoS granularity with CBR, UBR, VBR. In addition, the software supports TOS/DiffServ packet marking, as well as IEEE 802.1 p/q packet tagging to ensure delivery of critical business traffic.

The software includes a network admission control (NAC) module to protect the business network from unwanted access, with support for authentication standards like 802.1x, Radius AAA, TACACS+ as well legacy PAP/CHAP and MSCHAP authentication.

Bridging and Routing

Selectable bridging and routing functionality, along with a rich  set of configurable Frame Relay, PPP with PAP/CHAP authentication, and IP WAN protocols, allows a wide range of choice when connecting offices via common WAN interfaces.

Extensive IP QoS capability is included through support for TOS/DiffServ packet marking, as well IEEE 802.1p/q packet tagging; both of which help guarantee delivery of critical business traffic flow through Netopia routers.

For enterprises who want to integrate and aggregate voice, data, and video traffic over their networks, Motorola's suite of LAN and WAN routing capabilities also includes support for IP multicast IGMP video streams in addition to encrypted voice, data, and video.

Software enhancements in version 8.7 of the software include:

  • Support for IGMPv3: Bandwidth utilization and security have been improved, enabling managed service providers to effectively deliver new multicast services with higher levels of control. Of particular importance to business customers is IGMPv3’s filtering capability, which protects against denial of service attacks.
  • Support for Wireless Multimedia Protocol (WMM): Motorola's embedded software with WMM wireless capability enable a single wireless access point to provide differentiated services and mixed applications, and to serve multiple users competing for bandwidth. This is critical when wireless users are concentrated, as happens with commercial Wi-Fi access systems.
